I’m here in New Zealand and, yes, it’s just as beautiful as you imagine!
I arrived here on Monday, May 29 after a 14 and 1/2-hour flight from Houston and I haven’t looked back since! Over the course of the past week, I have spent my days working at Shore Community Church in Auckland, meeting new, wonderful people, and experiencing Kiwi culture to the fullest! I have learned so much and I have come to love a great many things about New Zealand (especially morning and afternoon tea!).
While at Shore Community Church, I have been given the opportunity to work with the Children’s ministry where I have helped prepare lessons and activities for the children on Sunday Morning. The kids are wonderful and they were an incredible blessing to hang out with last Sunday (Check out the blurry Picture of me trying my best to help out with a craft!). I have also been able to help with a 24/7 youth work program at the local Jr. High. This program is really awesome and allows churches to partner with and supply chaplains to local schools. My time at Shore has also been a really great learning opportunity for me when it comes to church operations and how a 20-year-old church plant runs in New Zealand.
One of my favorite parts about being in New Zealand is getting to know all of the great and spectacular people who are serving Christ, building for His kingdom, and ministering to His people, despite the post-Christian climate. I am incredibly blessed to be able to join in with what God is doing here in Auckland and I cannot wait to continue throughout the rest of the summer.
I ask for your continued prayers.
P.S. This past Monday (your Sunday because time zones and stuff) was the Queen’s birthday weekend and because New Zealand is a part of the Commonwealth of Nations, we had the day off. I chose to spend some time in Matamata at the Hobbiton Movie set, so enjoy this picture of me having way too much fun cheesin’ in a hobbit hole.
